Do Not Rehire Lists
Today, many employers are establishing "Do Not Rehire Lists" so that former employees, especially older ones, are automatically excluded from being interviewed and rehired. This procedure has far reaching ramifications.
When a potential employer is considering hiring an individual, it is common for the employer to contact previous employers and to ask whether the applicant is eligible for rehiring. The company will usually answer by saying "no" if the applicant is on the do not hire list, but will not provide any other information. Obviously, this is highly problematic for the applicant seeking work.
Being placed on a "do not hire list" has precluded many older applicants from finding work.
